New Privacy Policy

In order to comply with the new Google AdSense Terms I've gone ahead and added a Privacy Policy to Bill2me.com.

It should come as no surprise that this I have no intention of doing anything malicious to my visitors but I think that Google's new requirement that each of it's AdSense serving sites should include a Privacy Policy is appropriate.

If you're interested in reading the new AdSense friendly Privacy Policy you'll see it linked in the footer as well as in this post.

Save Money with Cold Brewed Coffee

All the way through college I never drank coffee. I tried once or twice but I just couldn't convince myself it was worth it.

When I started working full time (7am to 5pm) that changed. While I still don't drink hot coffee I find it absolutely necessary to have an iced-coffee every morning. Of course that creates a lot of problems.

I have not found a good way to make iced-coffee using hot brewing methods. Brew a pot of coffee - through it in the fridge and invariably you're unhappy. Buying an iced coffee every morning is even more trouble partly because of the money involved and partly because I end up buying a donut (or two) to go with it.

If you figure $4 a morning (for coffee, breakfast and a tip) times 365 days that's over $1400 a year at Dunkin Donuts!

I realized this just recently and immediately cringed at the wasted money. The good thing is it got me looking for a new way to fuel my morning coffee fix. What I found is called "Cold Brewed Coffee" and it's an incredible money saver for hot and cold coffee drinkers alike.

The system I bought (Toddy Cafe Cold Brew Coffee System) is extremely easy to use and makes a more consistent cup of coffee than any of my local Dunkin Donuts. If you're a coffee drinker looking to save money this year be sure to check it out!

WordPress Theme Design – Theory In Action

Below are two screenshots. The first was my mockup for the theme that's part of the "WordPress Theme Design" series, the second is the result of a little work I did tonight.

Between doing the heat, an excessively busy work week I'm a bit overwhelmed tonight so I thought I'd share two screenshots. One of the two shots below is the original concept art for a new theme while the other is one hour worth of coding. Check them out and let me know what you think.

There's still some tweaking to be done but things are coming along nicely.

List of Melee Weapons that Don’t Exist but Should

SwordChucksI stumbled upon the Uncyclopedia late last weekend and was totally impressed. If you're looking for a laugh and have some downtime take the time to check it out and be sure to check out the random page link.

The article that I found first, and which is truly a gem, was the List of Melee Weapons that Don't Exist but Should. While not really safe for work (NRSFW) it's definitely a lot of fun if you're into over the top humor.

All together the site is very much like what I would expect if The Onion did Wikipedia.

Using GIMP to Plan a Theme

WorGamer Theme MockupI started work on a new theme last night and, after brainstorming a bit, put together a quick mockup in GIMP. This is only the second time I've used GIMP to flesh out a theme and I'm pretty happy with the results.

The index page of the theme, which you can see to the right, is meant to do something a bit different. Rather than showing the most recent 5 posts it's going to be setup to display the most recent topics from each category. I made this decision because I wanted the blog to look more like a professional news site than a true blog.

While the content block on the index page is setup to show categories and post titles the right column (which will basically be the sidebar) will house ads, widgets and badges. The big red blocks you see are how I usually consider ad placement. They basically represent hot-zones and are goodfor helping determine if there are too many ads in a given area.

If it looks like there are a lot of ads there it's mostly because that site is going to be aimed at making affiliate sales. Tonight I'll be blocking out the single post pages as well as the category and custom pages.

Let me know what you think,
