Common Blogging Mistakes pt 3.

This is a continuation of my responses to the Blogging Mistakes Project from Daily Blog Tips.  Check out the original list of Blogging Mistakes for a list of all the participants and links to my other responses.

  1. Hamelife has a great post which reminds me a bit of something posted by Superfastreader.  One thing to remember, whether writing a post or comment, is that humor doesn't always translate well online.  Online the funniest comments are always subject to the readers state of mind - not the writers intent.
  2. When setting up your blog you should always be aware of certain details.  leftblank has a great example - using a smart permalink structure.  It's essential to get it set early too, changing your permalink structure anytime after launch can be a major problem in the long run.
  3. We'll be talking a lot about browser compatibilities soon. To Make Money Online has a good post which explains exactly why you need to be aware about the differences between IE and Firefox and what problems that can cause.
  4. Inspiration Bit points to a common blogging mistake both in this list and in general.  It's important to post regularly.  Take the time to save up some drafts or keep a list of "go to" post topics that are timeless and easy to write about.  Even if it's not your best stuff, something is better than nothing.
  5. Kind of in the same vein as the post from Inspiration Bit, AllPassionMarketing reminds us that blogging is ultimately about commitment.  Work on posts and work on your design but also remember that your first blog won't be a success overnight.  It takes sustained effort over time to build an audience and establish a good brand.

Having started blogging 2 months ago, i will admit, there’s been a few days (after a long day at work) where it’s been “a real slog to blog”, but have now got the pre-prepared posts system working quite well to cover me on those days.

I think in the 2 months I’ve only missed posting on 2-3 days, I try to post at least once a day, so there’s something new daily.
